Redneck or Not…A Truly Elegant Wedding Cake
March 5, 2009 by · Leave a Comment
Even when you think that you want a unique or different wedding cake, you should really look for an idea that personifies you and your groom. Most couples opt for a more traditional approach to their cake. Creative ideas are always something that you should share with your baker. A true cake artist will be able to create a masterpiece fit for a king and queen (or even a bride and groom).
Elegant Cakes by Carolyn provided the wedding cake for the recent episode of “My Big Redneck Wedding.” Melissa and Bradley from Venedocia, Ohio had their cake and ate it too. Their cake included a pickup truck and trailer so who said that “elegant” and “redneck” should not go in the same sentence.
Thanks Carolyn for creating this signature, redneck masterpiece!!

Nine Common Wedding Reception Planning Questions Answered
February 14, 2009 by · 6 Comments
Wedding Facts to Help Plan Your Reception by Ceruti’s Catering
Q: How far in advance do I need to reserve a location for my wedding reception?
A: The further in advance you plan, the more options you will have available to you. Typically, you will need to reserve a location at least 12 months in advance of your desired date. The most popular months are May, June, September, and October for most Midwestern climates. If you are not flexible regarding your month or date you may need to start planning 18 months in advance.
Q: Are there any months or dates that I can receive a discount?
A: Yes and No. February is the slowest month for banquet facilities and caterers therefore demand is weak. Fridays and Sundays are becoming more popular but still have great availability. Some rental items and facilities are negotiable when demand is weak, however other hard costs such as food are less negotiable.
Q: Do I need to put down a deposit?
A: Yes. Deposit policies will vary from each caterer and location. A deposit benefits both parties involved. Be sure to read closely over the details and fine points of the contract and ask questions on any areas that are unclear.
Q: Does the reception location provide decorating services?
A: Be sure to ask the banquet facility on which services they offer as a part of their packages. Some provide full service wedding decorating from centerpieces, fresh floral design, bouquets, ceremony decorating, and much more. Make sure to schedule time to work with your venue to help you create the wedding of your dreams.
Q: What will it cost for my wedding reception?
A: Obviously, the cost of a wedding reception will vary from the location, number of guests, menu selection, beverage selection, and decorating packages. Typically a wedding reception will range from $20 - $60 per guest. Meet with your professional wedding consultant and discuss your needs so they can prepare an itemized written proposal for your review.
Q: Does the reception location supply and take care of china, linens, and skirting?
A: Most locations include china, silverware, linen napkins, linen tablecloths, and linen skirting in most of their wedding packages. Ask if they offer a full range of colors and fabrics including chair covers.
Q: What questions should you ask concerning alcoholic beverages?
A: The location or caterer should be licensed by the State of Indiana to serve alcoholic beverages. Keep this in mind for their facility as well as other off-premise locations. Ask if they offer a wide variety of beer, wine, and mixed drinks. Ask about specific details and their limitations on any signature drinks you might want to include at your reception.
Q: Does the caterer provide wedding cakes?
A: Most caterers do not provide wedding cake. You may choose your own cake decorator or they would be happy to provide a referral. Most caterers offer free cake cutting service at no additional charge. Always ask about this complimentary service as it will save you money on wasted cake.
Q: What happens to any leftover food?
A: Ask your caterer about their leftover food policy. Their leftover food policy should take into consideration Board of Health regulations. Be sure to ask for this policy in policy in writing.
Cake Cutting Theme Songs Set a Tone for Your Celebration
February 12, 2009 by · Leave a Comment
by MC-June Hoffman of Megasound
Cutting your wedding cake is one of the “big” traditional events at a wedding reception (right up there with toasts and the first dance). Whether you have a traditional wedding cake, cupcakes, or some other sweet treat, you use music to help set the tone for the rest of the evening.
The bride and groom feeding each other some sweet delicacy is a transitional event that helps kick off the celebration and move into the first dance. You can create excitement for the festivity or continue your wedding theme. It is also fun to get a paparazzi excitement going by asking your MC to announce for the cake cutting so that family and friends can bring cameras up to capture the moment.
Be careful with “how” you treat the cake cutting experience. You might think “ahead of time” that it is funny to “smash” cake in your new spouses face. Be aware that unpleasant results and messy pictures may result in this type of mayhem.
You might consider having your DJ/MC or band play one of these cake cutting themes or pick one of your favorite songs to kick off the party.
“Chapel of Love” by the Dixiecups
“Cut the Cake” by the Average White Band
“Grow old with Me” by Adam Sandler
“How Sweet it is (to be Loved by You)” by James Taylor
“I got You Babe” by Sonny and Cher
“Ice Cream” by Sarah McLachlan
“I’m so Excited” by the Pointer Sisters
“Love & Marriage” by Frank Sinatra
“Pour some Sugar on Me” by Def Leppard
“That’s Amore’” by Dean Martin
“Sea of Love” by the Honeydrippers
“Sugar, Sugar” by the Archies
“Unforgettable” by Nat King and Natalie Cole
“What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong
“A Wink and a Smile” by Harry Connick Jr.

Just when you thought that you have seen it all…stay tuned for the Season 3 episode of “My Big Redneck Wedding” on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at 2pm EST. The Country Music Television channel hit show features Melissa and Bradley from Venedocia, Ohio. The Wedding Connection’s awesome cake artist Carolyn Pruden’s (of Elegant Cakes by Carolyn) wedding cake will be a part of the “redneck event.”
The episode proves to be very entertaining with this couple bringing together a mess of kids and a whole lot of fun. “From redneck jousting with soda bottles on a PVC pipe to the groom rapping his wedding vows, these lovebirds have put a twist on every wedding detail. This also includes a toilet paper theme, a striptease by Melissa at the altar and an “eat the pudding out of the diaper” competition with grandma for dessert. It’s a not-to-be-believed-until-seen show.”
