Cake Cutting Theme Songs Set a Tone for Your Celebration

Cutting your wedding cake is one of the “big” traditional events at a wedding reception (right up there with toasts and the first dance). Whether you have a traditional wedding cake, cupcakes, or some other sweet treat, you use music to help set the tone for the rest of the evening.
The bride and groom feeding each other some sweet delicacy is a transitional event that helps kick off the celebration and move into the first dance. You can create excitement for the festivity or continue your wedding theme. It is also fun to get a paparazzi excitement going by asking your MC to announce for the cake cutting so that family and friends can bring cameras up to capture the moment.
Be careful with “how” you treat the cake cutting experience. You might think “ahead of time” that it is funny to “smash” cake in your new spouses face. Be aware that unpleasant results and messy pictures may result in this type of mayhem.
You might consider having your DJ/MC or band play one of these cake cutting themes or pick one of your favorite songs to kick off the party.
“Chapel of Love” by the Dixiecups
“Cut the Cake” by the Average White Band
“Grow old with Me” by Adam Sandler
“How Sweet it is (to be Loved by You)” by James Taylor
“I got You Babe” by Sonny and Cher
“Ice Cream” by Sarah McLachlan
“I’m so Excited” by the Pointer Sisters
“Love & Marriage” by Frank Sinatra
“Pour some Sugar on Me” by Def Leppard
“That’s Amore’” by Dean Martin
“Sea of Love” by the Honeydrippers
“Sugar, Sugar” by the Archies
“Unforgettable” by Nat King and Natalie Cole
“What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong
“A Wink and a Smile” by Harry Connick Jr.
Why Stay Away From “Copy Cat” Wedding Gowns?

There they are….. all over the internet….they are photographs of gorgeous wedding gowns offered at fraction of the prices that you have just seen in your favorite bridal salon. What is the difference? Is the bridal store just charging too much? Sometimes the photographs are the same as you’ve seen on the designer’s web page. What could be the problem in ordering in the comfort of your own home? What’s really going on here?
OK, here’s the not so pretty part of wedding gowns. Someone in China has illegally copied a designers photo to their web site. The site promises you a dress that looks like the one you fell in love with at your bridal shop, all at tremendous savings, sometimes hundreds of dollars. You’re looking for any corner to cut the costs of your wedding, what do you have to loose? After all, the web page says that you can return it if you don’t like it.
Ok, you’ve given them your credit card information and paid in full to place your order. Weeks go by and your gown arrives. You open the box and the wrinkled item in there bears little resemblance to the gorgeous gown you saw that the real manufacturer made. It doesn’t fit and the fabric isn’t even suitable for one of those yard flags. You have $400 tied up in a gown that you’d never wear! You could return it and hope they return your money, you could sell it to another unsuspecting soul online and you probably could only get $100 for it, if you’re lucky!
Another scenario could also happen here. This could be a big bridal store somewhere selling you the original gown. What could be the problem then? Well, the site may be gone after you give them your credit card information. Even it the site is still there, that doesn’t mean you’ll get your dream gown. The real manufacturer may have found out what they are doing and closed their account. (Real bridal manufacturers don’t look kindly on these practices and have requirements of what kind of stores can represent their merchandise and none of them approve of selling wedding gowns or bridesmaids gowns on the internet!) Now you are out the money and still have no dress that you’d wear for one of the most important days of your life!
If you’re lucky, you get your money back…that’s if you’re lucky. You’re still out the time you waited for this treasure. Now you have to buy a real gown at a real store. Now you may have wasted enough time that you’ll get the chance to pay a rush fee. So much for saving money!
But, how should have know this could happen to you? You’ve never shopped for a wedding gown before. Since you’re reading this article, that shows that you want to take the time to do your research. That’s step one! You do research when you buy a car or a house or any other major purchase. You should do this on your wedding plans too. The internet is a great place to do some wedding “looking for ideas.” There are all kind of photos and things with just the click of a mouse! When you are ready to make a purchase, go to the professionals. It will cost you less in the long run!
How to Avoid the Top 10 Mistakes Made by Engaged Couples

By Dawn Quick of The Wedding Place
3. The “I can do it all myself” mentality: Delegate to trustworthy friends and family members. You do the same things for them. Don’t allow yourself to get overwhelmed.
4. No Budget or an Unreasonable One: Set a flexible idea of what you want to spend on what. Point #2 comes into play again by identifying what is most important to you.
5. Disastrous Vendors: You get one chance to do this right! Check references and other happy brides. This point can’t be overestimated! Surround yourself with professionals. A good rule of thumb is don’t hire friends or relatives unless you would hire them if they weren’t your friends or relatives!
6. Verbal and Written Agreements: If you are paying someone a deposit or a retainer, have a contract in writing so each party can know what you can expect from the other. It must be dated and signed.
7. Getting Too Much Input from Others: Each person you know will have their own idea of how you should do things. Chances are that each person you know will have different taste than yours exactly. This is your day. You only get to do this once and it should be what you want, not what others want. Point to remember…. Trying to please everybody will please no one, especially you and your groom!
8. Becoming Bridezilla: Don’t make every daily moment about you and the wedding. You friends have lives too. Don’t obsess about your wedding. Don’t be a control freak. This goes back to hiring the right vendors and treating others with respect. If you follow those rules, things tend to fall into place.
9. Lack of Communication: Assuming things will happen a certain way will never work! Expecting things to just fall into place like you had in your head and not getting those ideas across to others is disaster looking for a place to happen. Do whatever communication suits your style best. A wedding web page, phone calls, email blast updates. Never assume!
10. Not Taking Time for Yourself and Your Groom: Wedding are VERY important events and should not be underestimated. However, there is something more important and that is your marriage. Take time for yourself as a couple and don’t get lost in the wedding itself. This is the start of your “happily ever after!” Don’t forget to enjoy the process!

Wedding Workshop Helps Mothers Plan Daughters’ Weddings
February 3, 2009 by · 1 Comment
My Daughter’s Wedding, a free workshop hosted by Kiss Wedding & Event Planning in collaboration with Goeglein’s Catering, did what it was meant to do — answer many of the questions mothers have when it comes to planning their daughter’s wedding. A panel of experts was on hand to provide information.
One of the biggest concerns addressed was stress. Dartanya Williamson, Wedding Consultant for Kiss handled that one.
“You can reduce the stress with planning,” said Williamson. “Every bride will go through something, but if you plan ahead as much as you can, it reduces surprises.”
“Set the budget first,” added Denise Jordan, Marketing Director for Kiss. “Then, as you move through the planning process, you can talk about what you can do rather than what you can’t. It helps all concerned keep things in perspective.”
Another hot topic was reception halls — when to book them and what to ask when working with the vendor. Jeff Werling, Marketing Director for Goeglein’s Catering had several recommendations.
“Book the reception hall 12 to 18 months in advance when you can,” said Werling. “When you set your date, book the hall. The sooner you book, the better.”
“Ask about whether or not there’s a catering fee.” He explained about the sales tax and other fees that are often attached when dealing with caterers and hall rentals. He also addressed the choices of sit-down dinners vs buffet-style and questions to ask in regards to each.
“How do I decide what to wear?” was a question posed by mothers of the bride and groom. Dawn Quick from the Wedding Place said the mother-of-the-bride sets the guidelines. She decided on what she wants to wear – long or short – and chooses a color that complements those of the wedding party. The groom’s mother follows her lead, choosing a dress of the same length but in a different complementary color.
When questioned, Quick explained, “Complementary means choosing a color that works with the colors the bridal party is wearing, but it should not match. The mothers don’t usually wear the same color as the bridesmaids!”
Judy Gaulden from Photo Artistry by Judy addressed 15 questions that brides should ask when working with a photographer. “Don’t compromise on your photos!” she said emphatically. Others in the room supported this advice. It was agreed that the photos are the most treasured remnants of the day because they capture the moments and freeze them for the future.
Marilyn Zellers, the cake lady, talked about the latest trends in wedding cakes and how to save money on this often very pricey item. Artificial layering on a tiered caked was just one of the possibilities.
Lorrine Swain, whose daughter Tara was married last year, offered advice from the mother’s perspective. She talked about managing a lot of her daughter’s wedding planning because her daughter lives out of town, the stresses of dealing with the guest list and RSVPs.
“Order extra invitations,” she advised. She pointed out that it was less expensive to order more and not need them than to reorder if one ran out. “There’s always someone you missed!”
One of the Kiss brides-to-be, Ashley Gaugler, talked about the stressors of being a bride and how she was handling that. “My wedding planner is my new best friend.”
My Daughter’s Wedding was held on Sunday, January 18 at 2 p.m. in The Fireplace Room at Goeglein’s Reception Halls located at 7311 Maysville Road.
The Fort Wayne Journal Gazette also covered this Mother/daughter event on Sunday, February 1, 2009.

Wedding Day Magazine Features Fort Wayne Wedding Connection Bride

Three Wedding Connection members (along with other local wedding professionals) helped bride Melanie Cismowski and groom Douglas McGregor create an elegant wedding on May 24, 2008. Melanie and Douglas’ wedding was one of the couples featured in the Winter 2009 edition of Wedding Day Magazine. The couple worked with the Monogram Shoppe on their invitations and held their reception at Orchard Ridge Country Club. Linda Maggert AIFD (of One of a Kind Events) took care of the couples flowers as well a being their wedding coordinator.
Check out Melanie and Douglas’ story and additional photos online:
Melanie chose the vintage inspired “Rhianna Royale” gown by Maggie Sottero topped with a mantilla style fingertip veil to complete the picture perfect look. Although blue is her favorite color (it matches her eyes), she chose to stay with rich fabrics and colors for the bridal party attire and accented with flowers of the blue and ivory with a touch of yellow for fun and contrast. Details like a bagpiper playing as they exited and an old fashioned trolley to take the wedding party from church to reception added just the right touch to the ceremony.
